Poongulam Subramaniam, a percussionist much sought after by musicians. Simple and soft-spoken, Subramaniam has pursues his art with diligence. He takes a trip down memory lane. His father Poongulam R. Sabesa Iyer whose gurukula training was under Tiruvarur Kunju Iyer, was an accomplished mridangam player. Sabesa Iyer has played for all the doyens of yore, such as Madurai Mani Iyer, GNB, Alathur and Ariyakkudi.
